This is an illustrated lecture covering the 500 years of English music history from the Renaissance church composer John Taverner (1490-1545) to the Neo-Renaissance church composer John Tavener (1944-2013).

The 'tour' stops at the lives of famous composers en route - Tallis, Byrd, Purcell, Handel Haydn, Elgar and Birtwistle and considers their contribution to the story of music in England. It illustrates their careers with powerpoint slides and aural examples of their work.

Rick Jones was chief music critic of the London Evening Standard and remains secretary of the Critics' Circle, a professional association for writers about theatre, music, film, dance, visual art and books.
